Commercial & education EV charging grants

Government support can reduce the cost of installing EV chargepoints at workplaces and state-funded education sites. Nexus can help you identify the appropriate scheme and design the charging infrastructure around your business, fleet or education site.

Current as of August 2026. The EV chargepoint schemes below have been extended for a final year to 31 March 2027. Grant rates, eligibility, budgets and scheme rules can change, so treat the figures as a guide and check the official GOV.UK source before committing to a project. Nexus can help confirm the relevant scheme as part of your quotation.
At a glance

Which commercial or education grant could apply to you?

The main distinction is whether the project is a workplace/business installation or a state-funded education site. The education scheme carries a higher maximum grant per socket.

Electric Car & Van Grants

Vehicle discount — not a charger grant

Some new zero-emission cars and vans qualify for a government discount at the point of purchase. This is separate from the chargepoint grants, but can make fleet electrification more affordable.

  • Eligible electric cars can receive a government discount through the Electric Car Grant
  • Some small electric vans can receive up to £2,500
  • Some large electric vans can receive up to £5,000
  • Vehicle eligibility and available models change, so check the current government list

For businesses

Turn the grant into a complete EV energy project

For commercial customers, the chargepoint grant is often only one part of the business case. Nexus can scope the wider energy requirements around EV charging, including electrical capacity, solar generation, battery storage and smart energy management.

  • Assess current and future EV charging demand
  • Plan charger locations and electrical infrastructure
  • Consider solar PV and battery storage alongside charging
  • Design around fleet, staff and visitor charging requirements
  • Build grant assumptions into the project quotation where applicable

How it works

From grant check to installation

01

Tell us about the site

We'll look at the property, parking, number of vehicles and the type of charging you need.

02

Check the scheme

We identify the most relevant current grant and flag any eligibility requirements or exclusions.

03

Design the solution

We scope the chargepoints and supporting electrical infrastructure, with solar and battery options where they make sense.

04

Apply & install

The application route depends on the scheme. Where installer-led claims apply, the approved installer claims the grant on the customer's behalf.

EV grants FAQs

Common questions

How much is the Workplace Charging Scheme worth?

For installations completed from 1 April 2026, eligible workplace customers can receive up to £500 per socket, with a maximum of 40 sockets across all sites per applicant. The grant can cover up to 75% of eligible purchase and installation costs.

Can landlords get help with EV chargers?

Yes. Eligible residential landlords can receive up to £500 per socket and apply for up to 200 sockets per year across their sites, subject to the scheme rules.

Is there an EV charger grant for schools?

Yes. State-funded schools and education institutions can apply for up to £2,000 per socket, with up to 40 sockets across their sites, under the education version of the Workplace Charging Scheme.

Does Nexus apply for the grant?

The application process depends on the scheme. For the Workplace Charging Scheme, the customer applies first and the OZEV-authorised installer claims the grant on the customer's behalf after installation. Other schemes have their own application routes. We'll explain the process for your project before work starts.

Are grants guaranteed?

No. Grants are subject to eligibility, scheme rules and availability. Government guidance can change, so Nexus will not treat a grant as confirmed until the relevant application or voucher has been approved where the scheme requires one.
