Air source heat pumps: lower heating bills, lower carbon, government grant included
MCS certified heat pump installation for homes and businesses across Lancashire and the North West. We handle the heat loss survey, the system design, and the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant application — so switching from gas or oil is genuinely straightforward.
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme, explained simply
The government's Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) currently offers £7,500 towards an air source heat pump for eligible properties in England and Wales — rising to £9,000 for qualifying off-gas-grid oil or LPG homes during the enhanced grant window. The grant is deducted from your price up front; we handle the paperwork.
- £7,500 standard grant, or £9,000 enhanced grant for eligible off-gas-grid properties
- Paid directly to Nexus and deducted from your quoted price — no waiting for reimbursement
- Applies to owner-occupied homes, private rentals and some small non-domestic premises
- Currently 0% VAT on qualifying installations, reverting to the reduced 5% rate from 1 April 2027
- Transparent pricing shown before and after the grant, with interest-free finance available on the remainder
Why homeowners are moving to heat pumps
Lower running costs
A well-sized heat pump can produce 3–4kWh of heat for every 1kWh of electricity it uses.
Lower carbon heating
No on-site fossil fuel combustion — a genuine step toward a net zero home.
Quiet, low maintenance
Fewer moving parts than a boiler, with a typical 20–25 year system lifespan.
Works with solar
Pair with solar PV and battery storage to run more of your heating on power you generate yourself.
Getting it right before we get it installed
Room-by-room heat loss survey
Carried out to MCS standards, so the system is sized correctly — not oversized, not undersized.
System design & grant application
We size the unit, cylinder and emitters, and handle your Boiler Upgrade Scheme application.
Installation & commissioning
MCS certified installation, with electrical and (where relevant) gas decommissioning handled by our own team.
What a heat pump costs — before and after the grant
Heat pump installation cost varies by property size and system type, but the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant and lower running costs mean the real payback period is often shorter than people expect. Every quote from Nexus shows transparent, fixed pricing before and after the grant.
- Installation cost: typically £8,000–£18,000 before grant, shown as a clear itemised quote — not a rough estimate.
- Grant funding: £7,500 (or £9,000 enhanced) deducted from your price up front, reducing the net installation cost immediately.
- Payback period: driven mainly by the running-cost gap versus your current gas, oil or LPG heating — we calculate this for your property as part of your quote.
- ROI: a well-maintained heat pump typically runs for 20–25 years, so most of that lifespan delivers ongoing energy savings after payback.
- Interest-free finance & monthly pricing: spread the installation cost interest-free, and cover ongoing servicing on simple monthly pricing rather than a large annual bill.
"We wanted the real installation cost after the grant, and a straight answer on payback period — not just a sales pitch about energy savings."
What people ask before switching
Will a heat pump work in an older or poorly insulated home?
In most cases yes, though it may need larger radiators or additional insulation to run efficiently. Our heat loss survey identifies exactly what your property needs before you commit.
How much does an air source heat pump cost after the grant?
Typical installed prices before grant run roughly £8,000–£18,000 depending on property size and system type, with the £7,500 (or £9,000 enhanced) grant deducted from that. We provide a fixed, written quote showing the price before and after grant.
Do I have to remove my gas boiler?
Not necessarily — hybrid systems that combine a heat pump with existing gas heating are an option in some properties. We'll advise what's right for yours.
What ongoing maintenance does a heat pump need?
An annual service is generally required to keep manufacturer warranties valid. Our heat pump maintenance plans are available on simple monthly pricing from £13.99/month.
Is a heat pump a good ROI compared to gas heating?
Once the grant is applied, most homeowners see a stronger return the higher their current heating costs are — a well-sized heat pump can produce 3–4kWh of heat for every 1kWh of electricity used. We calculate expected payback period and ROI against your current heating costs as part of your free quote.
